My Update and plans for restarting my blog
It has been a long time since I have written any blog posts so I thought I would start fresh. Starting today my aim is to publish one blog post every Sunday following my No Spend Year Challenge. This year I have been on a Journey to find myself and has been a lot about focusing on making myself happy. Things have been rough at times but I have a good feeling that everything will work out for the best. It’s just me and Harry now so I decided I would draft my old blog posts and start new from now.
My aim is to work on myself for a whole year. My health is a big reason to do this to improve my mental health, weight and fitness. I will be drawing, writing, painting and creating as much as I can. Enjoying every moment as cheaply as possible, having more experiences with Harry, and earning/saving as much as I can during that year.
The big target is for me to have saved enough to go on 2 holidays by this time next year and really earn it. For a long time, I have wanted to take Harry to Cornwall and I would love to go see my good friend Trisha in Amsterdam.
Mevagissey Pisky Postcard, Cornwall. One of the places I remember as a child that I want to revisit and the small beach Port Holland we would visit every year.
No Spend Year Challenge
One of the biggest challenges I’m having at the moment is the small amount I have to live on. With a growing boy and a limited amount of funds, money has become quite tight. This made me think about the youtube video I watched more than once last year but life got in the way and I never followed through with doing the challenge. It was about a lady called Michelle McGaph who did a challenge not to spend anything extra for a year other than necessities. If you want to hear more about her story I’ve posted her Ted Talk below.
My Rules for the Challenge
Unlike Michelle, I will have to give myself a transport budget and there are things I will need to spend for Harry to still be able to do things with his friends but wherever possible I will be keeping the costs down. I will also be allowing myself a gym membership and to restart Ju-Jitsu I was doing last year that I haven’t been able to afford more recently.
If I need an item I will buy it but if I just want it I will be putting my purse away. I really want to see how much money I can save. This means no more eating out, takeaways, coffee shop trips, junk food, drinking alcohol or expensive days out. Instead, it means taking my flask and having picnics, exploring free places, cooking healthy food from scratch and getting outdoors more. I know this is going to be good for me and I can’t wait to share my updates weekly.
I thought it was fitting to finally start this challenge today on my mums birthday. I can’t wait to see how much self-improvement I can accomplish by her birthday this time next year. I’ll be posting regular updates on my social media about how I’m getting on with the challenge and will be sharing any tips I find to help with my challenge.
Thank you for reading. Ellie aka The Nutty Squirrel 🙂 Tune in next week to see what I have accomplished.
P.S. I would love others to join me in the challenge. If you can relate to any of this and might want to join me in this no spend year challenge, leave a comment and let’s connect.
