Creative Saving with Ellie – Week 2 Planning your menu
I’m always saying I need to write a menu and I might write one some weeks and then forget about it but I never follow it through. Why not? It would save me money, time and energy. I wouldn’t need to decide what to cook that day for tea.
I don’t know about you but in this household, it goes like this
‘What you want for tea?’
‘I don’t know, what do you want?’
‘I don’t know, I asked you first!’
It might go on like that for a while until one of us suggests the same old meals. I can cook! I love to cook and bake! I don’t know why I’m not doing it. I decided I needed to create a weekly menu, that I fill out each week.

Filling out the Weekly Menu Planner
I just went for it earlier and finally filled in the menu. A few places like breakfast we usually have cereal or toast, so I wasn’t as specific with what I put. Especially those days when we are out the house early but I have tried to include breakfast treats at the weekend so it’s not boring.
I focused more on Dinner as that is my weak point and where I often opt for takeaway as I haven’t planned ahead. I kept it simple and remember to check your cupboards for anything you could use up. I have noodles to use up so my stir fry will be a chicken chow mein with the sauce I bought ages ago.
Time to write that shopping list
Now it’s time to look at what ingredients you have and write down what you don’t have on a list. I just wrote it on the back of an old menu, but any paper will do or I sometimes use my notepad on my phone.
Tomorrow we will be going to do the shopping. We’ll be going to the butchers we used to and getting a bulk amount of meat and freezing it.
